Veteran's Weekend F7A "Appearance" Upgrade

They just announced that the special for this Veteran's Weekend is not a special sale of previously limited ships or an actual ship upgrade like the ones released for the Hornet and Aurora but instead will be a visual upgrade for all Hornet variants so that they look like the F7A military Hornet. Very unexpected but I can see why they would do this. One of the top free to play games of all time is League of Legends. One of LoL's main sources of revenue is the sale of skins for champions that you can play in the game. All these skins do is change the visual appearance of the champions and nothing else. What are your opinions on Star Citizen's start to incorporate these visual upgrades, aka skins, for ships in the game that can be purchased with real money?

Okay, so $5 gets you a military skin.
$20 gets you a hull mod kit that changes the profile.

So the SuperHornet will turn into?!! Something we havn't seen yet - that, um, er.. has a lower profile?

Eh?

Completely confused.

"This is more than a skin; in the game world, it’s an after-market fuselage update kit." sounds like a upgrade that improves the engine to me

No, according to the forum, it :

- Changes the 'look' / silhouette
- Changes the skin

That's it. It's like a $5 military skin but it changes the look a little.

The post explicitly states that it does not affect engines, hardpoints or in any way makes your ship a deceptively named F7A.

I'm not going for it.

According to the wiki on the hornet, the F7A is supposed to have better (milspec) components and it should be more of a threat than the civilian model. At the very least it may get you different guns.

No, unfortunately the so called "F7A" Upgrade is cosmetic only. It will strictly change the colour scheme and slightly adjust the look.

From now until midnight (PST) on November 11th you will have the opportunity to upgrade your current Hornet into the style of an F7A Military Hornet...

UPGRADE CLARIFICATIONS
To answer several common questions about the F7A upgrade:

The F7A upgrade does not change the base stats of the Hornet. It does not activate additional hardpoints or engine capacity. There will be an impact from the change in fuselage, as the silhouette of the ship will be altered.
The F7A upgrade does not remove the second seat from users who have purchased a Super Hornet.

Unless you want to fly around with an adjusted silhouette (which may be the only practical advantage), you may be better off just buying a military skin ($5). The only thing I can possibly think of is that the new silhouette might be less easy to detect than the previous one, but who knows, because we have not even seen what they have modeled.

We are still getting a lot of conflicting information on this.

Please check following :

Another user says :

"but got a confirmation from BEN on concierge that the $20 F7A Upgrade was the first step on the path to Mil Spec.
He confirmed that although it can't fit a class 4 power plant off the bat it will allow you to buy a housing/frame upgrade that fits the F7A base frame. This can then fit a class 4 power plant.

Not sure how many steps it will be or how many quests/faction/credits it will take but a F7A-M selfbuild appears to be possible."

No idea what is true anymore, so I'd say the safest strategy is to have one just in case, and melt if it doesn't work out.
