Exploration

I'm looking to do some, if not a lot, of exploration. I haven't really decided on what ship I want to do that with though. What are your thoughts on exploration and the ships that would be good for that? I was thinking Caterpillar for a bit because it was heavily armored, and had spots for quite a few guns.

It depends, I personally bought a 325a for both dog fighting and exploration. The 315p is another option. They are basically the same ship with different upgrades, and I'm planning on have a few specs for the ship depending on what I'm using it for.

The 300 series is a small ship so it should have a low signature in case you run into any unfriendlies while exploring, as well as having some fighting capabilities and a cargo hold for anything you find. It's quick as well.

The smallest ship that can have a Jump Engine, required for quick system to system travel, is the Freelancer. Fitted with some pretty efficient engines, and a power plant that is anti-matter, it seems to be the longest lasting away from a refueling dock. Still, we do not know where, how big, how efficient, etc. etc. the fuel system will be for Star Citizen. Right now all we are dealing with is firepower and shielding for the dogfighting module.

I have the 325a as well, I guess I assumed the larger ship would be needed for the longer voyage.

Thanks for the link Durron. That is disheartening. Why then, is it that the 215p has a different jump engine, and they stressed that, but then they say that all the ships have jump engines, then say that jumping takes no resources. It seems that all the different jump engines are is a name... all fluff...

So you would have to either just fly forever or discover jump points to new places then, at least that's how I understand it.
