I started naming my ships back in Star Trek Online, because before that you never really thought about it. That and Firefly made me first think about it. As per the 'Enterprise' wasn't a good one because mostly everyone would try for that name or a variant there in. So I got to thinking in STO, what if I put part of my name into the ship? Maybe if I added something from a favorite show of mine too. And it took me quite a bit to find a decent naming system.
So what of a name?
Vancsir?
VanLan Cargo?
A few others that were kind of crappy and didn't make much sense, and they didn't fit very well when explaining them to others as well. The Van Lan Cargo could be a decent name of a small company, but no, I needed a decent ship name.
Then I got to thinking..What if I named my ship the Lancerseer? Well with my title as Lancer, a name for cavalrymen of old Europe, and seer for being able to see or at least sense the future, and what it may hold. Well damn, that is a good idea. Then I had to think of my favorite show, honestly when growing up I had many, so what could it be? Everyone loved Firefly and many still wish it had continued, I do love it, but I have another in mind. I have every season and movie of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe. That is definitely my favorite show, but what can I add to the name of my ship that doesn't exceed its max spaces? Well I really liked the Goa'uld Death Gliders turned human Interceptor's, and they were aptly named X-series fighters. They started with X-301 and eventually made an X-302. So there it was:
My ships will be in a range of X-30#. So my first ship of the line, my Constellation starship: Lancerseer X-301.
