Well, looks like CIG lost about 45 GB of content to the wild.
Bengal carrier models, system coordinates, dev tools, and a whole heap of goodness knows what.
Expect leaks to be plastered everywhere..

It is a bit like when you start a new job with a fairly young company, people are nice, everything seems very easy. After a while, things get tighter and tighter, people stop smiling, procedures are introduced, red tape is extended, your work is suddenly checked, your freedom is restricted and so on, loose cannons are replaced and so on.

When CIG was formed, it was very happy go lucky, Wingman could just start Wingman's Nuts without issues and stuff was just randomly talked about, public events were disasters with technical problems and so on. Then CIG started to grow up, Wingman was cut loose, things were coordinated more tightly and controlled, and producers were put on to tighten things up, oh yeah, and that artist got fired. The leaks would never have happened with a older, more experienced company, but the need for security was never really conceived because there is so much other stuff that was vying for their internal attention. I predict further tightening up, more performance checks, staff needing to at the very least "check" things with a line manager before release and so on.

Which is a bit of a pity. I liked the more youthful, accident prone CIG. So much more enjoyable to watch. Wingman didn't fit into that new environment - he would have hated it. That much was obvious from the joyous look on his face about "having fun" during development with his new project after he left CIG.

yeah, I saw some of the bigger Vanduul ships in Imgur. These things happen, and it's unfortunate, but it's hardly going to harm the game. Cheer up, buddy, It'll be okay.

Well, it has boosted a lot of enthusiasm for the game for many people, that's for sure.
Funniest quote I read "CIG has at last achieved an unprecedented level of openness".

the thing is, from what I gather, the leak happened because Disco Lando screwed up and showed a screencap with a partial URL to the database with the files and someone figured out the rest. So apparently the Leak occured because of CIG trying to embrace the community.

I've only looked at one piece of the leak, don't have much interest in browsing for assets that may be old, unfinished, incomplete, etc. Rather wait for the official awe inspiring reveal by CIG. I was however unable to resist looking at a video of a Bengal Carrier asset in Cry Engine.

I am surprised by the chatter around the leak. From what I've heard nothing "bad" has come out of the leak, pretty much everyone agrees that all the assets are awesome looking. I think it's just the fact that there was a leak is somehow causing a stir.

This guy is a bit concerned though. I really hope this won't hurt the game development. Luckily cryengine source-code doesn't seem to be involved in the leak since it would (most likely) provoke a lawsuit.

That would be my 1 concern, is that it alters development in some way. Hopefully CIG is able to mostly ignore this and continue as is. Since it is an open development game, I would hope that would be the case.
