I'd be happy to do that!
If we did a 'biggest ships' day, it'd be very amusing indeed given the:
1 Javelin
4 Idris-P
1 Idris-M
3 890 Jumps
6 Reclaimers
2 Carracks
13 Banu MMs
14 Starfareres
4 Caterpillars
16 Retailiators
for 64 (of the biggest) ships (I'd guess the limit is going to be a power of 2 or modulo 10)
That, of course, wouldn't be counting the ~300 other ships
Quite a display, at least on any per-capita basis.

I think it would be pretty awesome seening those large ships surrounded by the much smaller ships like the Hornet, Origin Series, Xi'an, Avenger and Gladius.

That's why you have a hangar.
So what do you think, 1 hornet, 2 M50's or 4 merlins for on-ship escort?

The hangar is quite small on the Javelin, would rather see an Idris with fighter escort and keep the hangar on the Javelin for what it sounds like, Redeemer. Though all this remains to be seen on what will work best.
Ideally I think a [Javelin + Redeemer] and [Idris + 3-4 Fighters] would be a great ~40-50 person combo. Javelin maintains large ship targeting focus and Idris with it's 6-7 Anti-Fighter Class 5's + Fighter fleet maintain anti-fighter role.
Though I could see a Javelin and deep space fighters working well if a second ship with hangar capacity wasn't available.
Edit: Though to answer your question, if a Redeemer wasn't available or anti-fighter was absolutely needed in hangar, I'd go with the 2 M50's I think. A wingman is always helpful.

I agree with you there, Cal. I think the Redeemer or Prowler (if it fits) would work best on the Javelin.
For the ideal flight group, add an Idris with interceptor compliment, and another Idris with a bomber or superiority squadron. Gladiators for bombers, Hornets for Superiority.
Crazy that we have the resources to do that very early in the PU.

Looks like my initial assessment of the Javelin's role was off. I guess in this case, the class 6's are for Anti-Fighter cover and not Ship-to-Ship. Got a Dev response on the RSI forums
"Hey Calignos!
Designer of the Javelin here. The role of the Javelin is a mixture of anti-fighter and light anti-capital ship. The majority of the turrets are designed for an anti-fighter role while the torps and the Class 7s take the anti-capital ship duties.
Cheers!
Jon"

Granted.. since the ship comes unarmed, could probably just as easily equip STS turrets and not ATA.

"... I've designed a number of Achilles heels into the Javelin. It's powerful but by no means invincible and there are several strong ways to attack the Javelin.
As you say, there are different tactics and strategies associated with each ship."
