Upgrades and buying.

Just had a thought to help members with upgrades ect.
Could we set up a thread (just for our members in the locker room) where second user computer parts are sold on, such as gfx cards, memory, ect. As it is to benefit members and future friends and team mates, I would expect prices to be reasonable, with the idea of helping others get a better system than buying new, but also being assured the parts are in good working order.
All it needs to be is a first contact sort of thing, deals can then be made privately through paypal ect, and info exchanged privately.
Would require a certain amount of trust to start with though.
Not a new idea really as their is lots of sales done on facebook, gumtree, ect, so a similar thing here for members.

one of the big problems is that we are an international group, with members in the US, Germany, and I think a few from Sweden or Norway. As someone helping an overseas friend build a rig, I can tell you that shipping is a pain in the ass.

However, I do have a spare motherboard and a gtx550 graphics card available, plus disk drives and OEM power supplies, cables, etc. nothing fancy, but if someone's looking to get their feet wet in computer building, I'd be happy to let them go for cost of shipping.

If you don't really NEED to have the absolutely latest line of graphics card, you can find the 7*** series card really cheap if you look around. I found a 7970 for about the equivalent of U$180 here, and this stuff here in Brazil costs more than double what they are in the US.

I got lucky and got a used cryovenom 290 for cheap off ebay.
My older card is giving me something like between 2 and 6 fps in AC. I hope this improves things a bit

I'll find out shortly-- after performing some surgery (watercooled box.. replacing the graphics card always feels like heart surgery), the card is in.
.. now waiting for the patch to complete...

Ok, that is just worlds better now (now I seem to need to get pedals, since the joystick default seems to be roll instead of yaw,...)
