ilovebunnies application

Postby ilovebunnies » Wed Sep 25, 2013 9:56 pm

1. The in-game name of the character with whom you'll be joining

ilovebunnies (but lets just say Bunnies), or David Bowman (2001 ref obv)

2. Whether you wish to be a part of the Adam and Eves (Industrial/Mining) or the Hell's Angels (Military/Fighter Pilot).

Hmm, probably Hells Angels with a exploration/stealthy/Intel/Recon focus. Especially exploration of the complete unknown ;-). And an occasional "prepare for RAMMING SPEED!!" evening if I've had a bad day. I've realised over many years that my 'in-game' persona tends to be very much White Hat with a chaotic edge. So, I'm quite happy to, shall we say, engage in clandestine exfiltration of strategic assets, as long as for a good cause, and nobly ride to the rescue of brave little wagon trains being besieged by evil gangs of brigands, oh wait, wrong century, well you get the idea...

3. Any previous experience in flight/space sims.

Hurling myself out of trees aged 4 (games tended to be brief). Elite on the Archimedes. X-Wing and Tie Fighter. None recently though.

4. What your veteran backing/pledge status is and what ships you'll be starting with.

I only pledged about a week ago, so I guess no veteran status or LTI. Ships wise I'll start with:
- a 325A
- A Constellation
- A Hornet
- A Freelancer
And I hope it stops there. At least my credit card does.

5. Please provide at least 200 words telling us about you.

In-game: I have a pretty demanding job (see below) so I'm not likely to be much more than 'serious casual'. Some evenings and some weekends are almost certainly my only availability. SC is a game I'm very excited about as it has those key elements of exploration and discovery in the grand space opera tradition, plus the opportunity for epic battles, white knuckle recon/smuggling runs, tension laden escort duties, and ambushing doers of evil ;-)

Out of game: I'm late 30s, have cats (<- MOST IMPORTANT THING (though don't tell my fiancee that)), and live in Virginia, though I'm not originally from the USA. I teach and do research in physics at a university (a proper one!) and absolutely hate it when the nuggets call me 'professor'. My language can on occasion get singularly tempestuous, but I try not to offend anyone too much.

And to finish off, greatest games I've played in the last few years: Bioshock Infinite (omg what an ending!), Dark Souls, Analogue, a Hate Story (well I liked it ;-)), Dishonored, The Walking Dead.

I've got to admit, when I got an email from the forums saying, "There's a new topic in the application forum from 'ilovebunnies'" I was a little apprehensive.

But then, I saw you were a physicist and I'm like, "Oh, OK... that makes sense now." :) Out of curiosity, what kind of physics do you research?

That being said, I loved your application and think you'd make a great addition to Citadel... I'd like to formally welcome you to the Hell's Angels division of Citadel Space! I've added you to our roster which will give you access to our member's only forums.

Please make your first stop the new pilot post in the Locker Room to see everything that's need-to-know at a glance. After that, take your time to catch up on some posts and get to know the other pilots. :)

Welcome, Bunnies!

Thankyou! Looking forward to some fun times ;-)

Research wise I'm an astrophysicist. I work on the evolution of galaxies - how they assemble their stars and central black holes, and how their properties can be used to trace the history of the universe. Oddly, this makes games like Star Citizen a nice break...

Very nice!

I actually took descriptive astronomy last year. Learned a lot. Hated the class.

I think I sunk more time into that single subject than any of my other three classes that semester.

Props to you for doing that for a living.

Well, 'Descriptive Astronomy' courses are ones that its possible to teach EXTREMELY badly - it makes little sense with just descriptions but is really beautiful with just a wee bit of math. We had to do an astro book review here for a 1000 level course recently and the books just made me want to cry...
